My friendship with Meredith dates back to early high school, with days of running around the ice rink where our brothers played hockey. We didn’t go to school together, and we lived an hour away from each other, but somehow a friendship developed that has endured over 20 years, and hopefully will continue for many more.
When Mere was pregnant, I was still in the process of building my portfolio and establishing my business. She called me, not because she wanted maternity photos, but because she wanted to document this time in their life with their three special needs rescue dogs before they added a human baby to their pack. I did some in home photos for her and her husband, Fabrice, that summer, and anxiously waited to hear if they would do newborn photos. I was extremely disappointed when she told me that they just didn’t think they wanted newborn photos, and then elated when she sent me a text from the hospital after baby Daniel arrived, telling me that they had changed their minds, and asking if I would please do them.
Fast forward to nearly a year later and we’ve captured some fall family photos just before Daniel’s first birthday. Mere and Fabrice opted for an in home lifestyle session again. In home sessions are some of my favorite to do. It made it easier for them to include their furbabies, it means that the weather isn’t as much of a factor as it would be if we were doing a completely outdoor session, and it allows me to include the home environment, a big part of their day to day life, in the background. Since our friendship dates back to before I started photography, I have gotten to see Daniel a couple times over the past year, but it was still so exciting to see how much he has grown.
Mere and Fabrice have settled very naturally into their roles as parents. It is clear that Daniel lights up their lives. As much as I loved watching the antics of this almost one year old, what I loved even more was watching his mom and dad watch him. I look forward to many years of watching this little one grow, and many more years of friendship with his mama.
